Liverpool have been backed into 8/1 on Bet Victor to sign Stoke City winger Xherdan Shaqiri.

The Switzerland international is almost certain to leave the Bet 365 Stadium this summer following City’s relegation into the Championship.

Plenty of Premier League clubs are rumoured to be interested in securing his services, but Liverpool, according to Bet Victor, are also in contention.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are listed as 8/1 third favourites, with Tottenham Hotspur – who have been strongly linked – offered at 6/4 favourites, while Leicester City [5/1] are in between both top-flight sides.

Everton, AC Milan and Roma are also priced at 8/1.

Are Liverpool that likely?

In a word, no. Shaqiri, valued at around £15.3 million by CIES, Football Observatory, is still only 26 and unless he wants to spend the prime of his career sitting on a bench, he probably won’t be joining the Anfield club.

That is because the former Bayern Munich star, a right-winger, would be competing with Mo Salah for first-team football and, well, there probably isn’t any player on the face of the planet who would dislodge the Egypt star right now.

From Shaqiri’s perspective, it makes sense to not make a decision on his future until after Switzerland’s World Cup. The attacker often dazzles at big tournaments for his country, and doing the same in Russia this summer would open the door for a lot of big moves, you would imagine.

Last month, fans of the Merseyside club on Twitter expressed their desire to see Klopp sign him.
