Betting: Liverpool 6/1 favourites to sign Brighton’s Lewis Dunk

Could Liverpool look to strengthen their centre-back options by targeting Brighton defender Lewis Dunk?

According to Sky Bet, Liverpool could seemingly be tempted to make a move to sign Brighton and Hove Albion vice-captain Lewis Dunk during the summer, with the bookmaker listing the Reds as the 6/1 favourites to sign the centre-back.

Dunk has been one of Chris Hughton’s star men this season. The 26-year-old has started all 32 of the Seagulls’ Premier League games and has helped them go into the final six fixtures of the campaign in a fantastic position to secure a second consecutive season in the top flight.

Brighton boast the best defensive record of any team in the bottom-half of the table, and they have only conceded eight more goals than Jurgen Klopp’s men despite sitting 10 places below them in the league.

And bookmaker Sky Bet has seemingly hinted that Liverpool may now be tempted to try and lure Dunk away from the Amex Stadium, as they have listed the Merseyside outfit as the 6/1 favourites to sign the centre-back this summer, while Everton are available at 14/1 and Newcastle are back at 25/1. So if he is going anywhere, it appears set to be Anfield – though it must be mentioned that he is odds-on to stay put.

Dunk may not be a marquee name, but he could be a very decent addition if Liverpool did make a move and managed to get something done in the coming months.

Spotrac reports that he earns £35,000-a-week with Brighton, so he is unlikely to be the most expensive signing that Liverpool go after – if there is anything in the odds, of course.

But based on how he has adapted to life in the Premier League with the club that he has spent all of his career associated with – he had a very brief loan spell at Bristol City five years ago – he could prove to be a very shrewd signing for one of the top clubs in the league.
