Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger reportedly snubbed the chance to join Tottenham Hotspur during the final days of the transfer window.
According to Goal, Rudiger, who was heavily linked with a move to Spurs, turned down the chance to quit the Blues for their London rivals.
Tottenham failed to sign a centre-back and although there’s still a tiny bit of time to sign domestic personnel, Jose Mourinho might have to wait until January.
But it’ll be interesting to see whether the North Londoners make another move for the Germany international in the winter transfer window – and going by his performance last night, they just may.
Rudiger impressed in the 2-1 win away to Ukraine in the Nations League, with Matthias Ginter opening the scoring on 20 minutes.
But the goal came through a brilliant moment from the 27-year-old, whose sudden turn of pace in the penalty box after a corner, followed by a drilled ball across the face of goal, led to Ginter tapping home.
Here’s how Chelsea fans reacted to his display:
Rudiger hasn’t kicked a ball for Frank Lampard’s side in the Premier League yet this season.
And it might actually help Tottenham if he’s still on the fringes of things come January.
That’s because Rudiger is going to need regular football during the second half of the season to guarantee himself a spot in Germany’s Euro 2021 squad, meaning he himself might instigate a departure if it hasn’t happened.
