Speaking on the Here We Go Podcast, Fabrizio Romano has shared Liverpool’s stance on Ibrahima Konate after their recent transfer links.
It’s been reported by numerous outlets that Liverpool are keen on signing Konate, and Romano seems to have heard the same information.
The Italian journalist also added that the Reds really rate the Frenchman, believing that he has the potential to be even better than Dayot Upamecano.
“About Konate to Liverpool? We have to say that it’s not a done deal yet. To be a done deal you have to pay the clause, and we saw with Upamecano that you can close this type of deal in 24 hours, so this is not a problem, you just have to pay Leipzig,” Romano said,
“At the moment from Liverpool the position is that they’re negotiating with the player for a five year contract. They are convinced that Konate would be perfect, because they like the player, they like his skills, they are convinced that he has the potential to be better than Upamecano. They are looking at his physical condition because they want to be 100% sure about injuries and everything. It’s not a done deal, it’s not signed, but they are negotiating with the player.”

If Konate does become better than Upamecano, then Liverpool will have a real player on their hands.
It seems as though this is a deal that could move along quickly, with the Reds simply having to pay the defender’s release clause.
The club are negotiating with the player, so it seems as though everything is at an advanced stage, but as Romano says, nothing is done yet.
This is certainly a situation to keep an eye on in the coming weeks.
