It’s taken a while, but Reiss Nelson finally began his season for Arsenal last night.

Mikel Arteta named the Gunners’ academy star in his first XI for last night’s 3-0 win over Dundalk in the Europa League.

It was the 20-year-old’s first appearance for Arsenal since the Community Shield win over Liverpool back in August.

And although Nelson wasn’t among the goals, it was a superb attacking performance from someone who was a constant threat to the Irish outfit.

His dribbling, in particular, was an impressive theme of his display and now some Arsenal fans want Arteta to start him against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Here’s how they reacted to his performance:

Arteta said pre-match that he wanted Nelson to go out on loan, but the player decided to stay and it’s probably because he clearly believes in his own ability.

And going by last night, why not?

It must be noted that Arsenal and Nelson will face far bigger tests than Dundalk this season, but you can only beat who’s put in front of you and the youngster deserves further chances to prove himself.
