Celtic took yet another step towards the Scottish Premiership title with a brilliant 4-0 win over Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
Celtic’s Stuart Armstrong
Celtic fans have been taking to Twitter to heap praise upon Stuart Armstrong following his performance in their win over Inverness Caledonian Thistle on Wednesday night.
The Hoops moved themselves to within seven points of yet another Scottish Premiership title after going to the only ground where they have dropped points in the top flight this term and winning 4-0.
Scott Sinclair opened the scoring with a brilliant effort from the edge of the box shortly before half-time, and Moussa Dembele took his tally for the season to 31 – including 11 in his last five – as he bagged a brace. But it was perhaps the goal that Armstrong scored not long after the hour-mark that surely deserves to be considered the goal of the night.
The midfielder was stood over a free-kick that was situated not too far from the corner of the Caley penalty area. And after a lengthy build-up – during which, he was seemingly encouraged by Brendan Rodgers to have an attempt on goal despite the acute angle – the 24-year-old powerfully curled his effort into the top corner, seemingly taking everyone in the area by surprise.
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers
The goal perfectly exemplifies what has happened to Armstrong since Rodgers’ arrival at Parkhead. The Northern Irishman has managed to boost the midfielder’s confidence enormously and that has helped turn him into one of the Hoops’ key men this term.
And his form has been so strong this term that one of the Celtic fans who has taken to Twitter has suggested that Armstrong may actually be playing better than Bhoys hero Stiliyan Petrov did during his time with the club.
Here is the best of the reaction…
