Manchester City confirmed yesterday evening that academy graduate Tommy Doyle will spend the season with German giants Hamburg SV.
The club announced on their official website that the midfielder will join the 2. Bundesliga side for the campaign. Doyle was one of many youngsters to depart City in what was a frantic deadline day.
As well as Doyle to Hamburg, Philippe Sandler and Patrick Roberts both joined French side ESTAC Troyes. Whilst Yangel Herrera returned to Spain by joining Espanyol for the season.
City only made two permanent signings during the window as Pep Guardiola’s side smashed the British transfer record to sign Jack Grealish from Aston Villa. Scott Carson also joined on a full-time deal from Derby County.
Indeed, with the club not signing a replacement for Sergio Aguero, the summer was somewhat disappointing for City. Harry Kane had been linked all window with a move, but nothing ever materialised.
That’s not to say the club did poor business. After all, loaning out Doyle to Hamburg could work out to be a great move for the young midfielder. And fans on social media were delighted with the transfer.

Here’s what some City fans had to say about Doyle joining Hamburg on loan for the season on Twitter…
