It looks like Arsenal are closing in on their first signing of the January transfer window.
According to German publication Bild, the Gunners are closing to signing Omar Rekik.
The 19-year-old defender has been given permission by Hertha Berlin to undergo a medical with Arsenal ahead of a six-figure move in the region of £542,000.
The report adds that Rekik will train with Mikel Arteta’s senior side at London Colney, but will initially play with Steve Bould’s Under-23 side.
Here’s how Arsenal fans reacted to the report this afternoon:
Rekik, who was born in Tunisia, is primarily a centre-back but can also play in central midfield.
Interestingly, he is the same age as William Saliba, the French centre-half who signed for the North London 18 months ago but still hasn’t made a senior debut.
Arsenal have a lot of central defensive options, but there is clearly confidence in Rekik’s ability and therefore it could be quite an exciting addition, if and when it’s confirmed.
