Goal have released the latest rankings of the Goal50 award, and, as you can imagine, there were a couple of Tottenham players represented in this list.
There are no prizes for guessing which two Spurs stars made the cut. Of course, it was Heung-Min Son and Harry Kane.
Kane and Son have been electric at times for Spurs this year. Antonio Conte’s arrival towards the end of 2021 allowed them to hit the ground running at the beginning of 2022 and work their way into contention for this award.
Kane and Son both made the top 50, but which of the two players ranked higher?
Well, interestingly, these two were ranked 13th and 14th in the world, and Son just about edged Kane.
Did Son have a better year than Kane? Well, he won a Golden Boot award last season, but he’s not started all that well this year while Kane has been quite consistent.
It is worth bearing in mind that this is a fan-voted award, so Son’s popularity, especially amongst the South Korean demographic, may well have turned the tide in his favour.
In reality, Kane probably did have the better year. Son had a brilliant first five months or so, but at the start of this season he has slumped, while Kane has gone from strength to strength.
One thing is for sure though, these two are a pair of the very best attacking players in Europe, and they more than deserve their spots in the Goal50 list.
Kane and Son will be looking to carry their form from early 2022 into 2023 as Spurs try to qualify for the Champions League once again.
