It’ll be fascinating to see if Jamie Murphy can stay at Rangers this season.

The Gers winger played in Friday’s 2-1 friendly win over Hamilton at Auchenhowie, following on from his brilliant loan spell at Burton Albion.

Murphy, a boyhood Rangers fan, scored seven goals in 10 games for the League One side down South after being loaned out in January.

That right there is an indication of his quality but it hasn’t really worked out for him at Ibrox under Gerrard.

The 30-year-old suffered a season-ending injury in August of 2018, only a few games into Gerrard’s reign in Glasgow, and has only played 52 minutes across two appearances for the club since.

But Rangers fans are hoping to see the Scottish star in contention to stay in his manager’s plans for the 2020-21 campaign.

This isn’t a bad idea, for Gerrard to keep Murphy.

Not only is he arguably a much better option than Jordan Jones or Brandon Barker, but he knows how important next season is.

Rangers are vying to end Celtic’s 10-in-a-row bid and Gerrard could do with some local lads who are fully aware of the magnitude.

Murphy has the quality and attitude to play for the light Blues and hopefully his manager thinks so too.
