Despite appearing in every Everton fixture this calendar year, it took until Tuesday for Tom Davies to make his England Under-21s debut.
Davies was given the full 90 minutes to impress as Aidy Boothroyd’s side hosted their Latvian counterparts at Bournemouth’s Dean Court ground – and the 19-year-old appears to have done precisely that.

Though he was not directly involved in any of England’s three goals – scored without reply by Demarai Gray, Tammy Abraham and Kasey Palmer – Davies did, however, spark the move which led to Gray’s opener, and had fans up and down the country raving about his performance afterwards.
And after a couple of unconvincing displays from the Three Lions’ seniors this week, several of those are already calling for Everton’s homegrown midfielder to be included in Gareth Southgate’s next squad.
