Arsenal are wasting no time in trying to replace Mesut Ozil.

The former Germany international finally left the Gunners to join Fenerbahce earlier this week, after seven-and-a-half years in North London.

Signing a creative midfielder has always been on Arsenal’s agenda this month, despite the emergence of Emile Smith Rowe.

And it looks like the Emirates Stadium outfit have identified Real Madrid youngster Martin Odegaard as a potential signing.

According to Sky Sports, Arsenal have made an approach to sign the 22-year-old before the January transfer window closes.

Odegaard, a Norway international, is one of the most exciting young players in European football but has struggled for regular football at Madrid under Zinedine Zidane.

Here’s how some Gunners fans reacted to the prospect of signing him this month:

Arsenal face competition from Real Sociedad – who had Odegaard on loan last season – but a spell in the Premier League might well appeal to him.

Plus, Mikel Arteta’s side, who have won four of their last five games, are riding the crest of a wave and it seems like everything is good in North London again.

Arteta delivered an FA Cup trophy in his first half-a-season in senior management and there’s no doubt that Odegaard will be attracted to working with such a promising coach – and one who came up under Pep Guardiola.
