Well, Michael Edwards and Liverpool apparently have very high hopes for a certain Harvey Elliott.

That was the claim of Stewart Downing who revealed to Goal.com that Jonathan Woodgate – who is close to Edwards – told him that the 17-year-old has some people very excited on Merseyside.

Edwards brought Elliott to Liverpool from Fulham 18 months ago and a brilliant loan spell with Blackburn Rovers this summer illustrates his potential.

To be only 17 and holding your own in a division like the Championship speaks volumes for the youngster’s temerity and ability.

Downing said: “I know [Bournemouth manager] Jonathan Woodgate well, and he’s quite close to Michael Edwards. Woody told me they have high hopes for him at Liverpool, and I can see why. “

And here’s how some Liverpool fan reacted on Twitter to Downing’s comments:

Another loan player from a Premier League club ripping up the Championship this season and getting widespread acclaim is Oliver Skipp of Tottenham Hotspur.

But he’s three years older than Elliott and already had 15 Premier League games under his belt by the time he joined Norwich on loan.

That right there ought to illustrate just how special Elliott is and it’ll be fascinating to see what Edwards and Jurgen Klopp plan to do with him next term.
