Arsenal have seemingly moved early with their summer transfer business, thanks to new boy Richard Garlick.
According to The Daily Mail, Arsenal are in talks to bring Norwich City playmaker Emi Buendia to the Emirates Stadium, as reported by HITC Sport afterwards.
The report adds that Garlick – who was recently appointed as the Gunners’ director of football operations – is the man behind the development.
Arsenal might well need a new creative spark during the upcoming transfer window.
The North Londoners signed Martin Odegaard on a half-season loan from Real Madrid in January but it remains to be seen whether a permanent transfer can be agreed.
With that in mind, a move for Buendia makes total sense and here’s how some fans of the Emirates Stadium side reacted to the new speculation on Twitter:
Edu’s role questioned
There’s a tad bit of confusion regarding the deal.
That’s because Edu and Mikel Arteta were the ones previously charged with Arsenal’s recruitment, so either Garlick has joined to be a third wheel or else the report is slightly bogus to begin with.
What isn’t debatable is that the Gunners need new blood this summer.
Arteta’s side have just finished eighth in the Premier League table and their top-four hopes were shot since pretty much November.
Failure to qualify for the Champions League next season might well result in Arteta’s departure, meaning it is paramount that the club recruit well over the summer months.
