Some Arsenal fans are suggesting that they are pleased they didn’t sign Houssem Aouar in the summer now, as he would have blocked the progress of Joe Willock.
Arsenal pushed hard to take Aouar from Lyon over the summer, but ultimately were unable to take the midfielder away from the French side, as reported by L’Equipe.
At the time, Gunners fans were gutted – as they felt Aouar would have been a brilliant addition to their squad.
However, Willock has proven his worth in the Gunners’ last two Europa League games and excitement is gradually building about his potential now.
The 21-year-old has scored twice in Arsenal’s last two Europa League games, and Gunners fans now suggest that Aouar may not be needed, as his arrival could block Willock’s development.
In fairness there may be a way for Arteta to work both Aouar and Willock in Arsenal’s team, if they were to line up with three central midfielders.
Aouar is more proven at a higher level than Willock, but that shouldn’t take away from the excitement about the youngster’s potential.
The Gunners’ academy graduate looks to be a huge talent, and it is surely only a matter of time before he claims his first Premier League appearance of the season.
