Speaking on Vibe With Five, Jermaine Jenas has been speaking about England’s potential World Cup team and Bukayo Saka.
The Arsenal winger was the Three Lions’ brightest spark in the most recent international break, and while he missed the decisive penalty at Euro 2020, he was one of the very best players at that tournament.
Saka will be hoping to be a starter for England in Qatar, and Jenas says that he simply cannot see past the Arsenal star when it comes to picking his first-choice on that right wing.

Saka the clear choice
Jenas went out to bat for Saka.
“I can’t see, there’s this argument around the right side for England, but I can’t see past Bukayo Saka. I can’t see past him. He plays well for England, and from a Gareth Southgate perspective he defends better than anyone on the right side, and he gets forward better than anyone, and he’s a goal threat, but then Foden does that at the weekend and you wonder why he can’t do that for England,” Jenas said.
Most balanced
Saka may not be the best in every single area when compared to his competitors, but he’s by far the most balanced player of the bunch.
Phil Foden may be better technically, Jarrod Bowen is probably a better finisher, but at the end of the day Saka combines all of the attributes a modern winger needs into one electric and exciting player.
As Jenas says, he’s also no slouch defensively, so if Gareth Southgate wants to play a more adventurous right full-back, such as Trent Alexander-Arnold, he will be able to help cover down that flank and provide more balance to this squad.
For us, starting Saka in Qatar is a no-brainer.
