Is Celtic’s Kieran Tierney a better left-back than Andy Robertson of Liverpool? Davie Hay reckons so.

Davie Hay has told The Glasgow Evening Times he believes that Celtic’s Kieran Tierney is ‘marginally’ a better left-back than Liverpool star Andy Robertson.
Scotland boast two of the best young left-backs in Europe, with Celtic man Tierney three years younger than 24-year-old Robertson.
Tierney, who has withdrawn from the squad ahead of tonight’s UEFA Nations League clash away to Albania, has often played on the right-hand side of defence, in order to accommodate the Liverpool ace.
But Hay, who won eight major trophies at Celtic, says that Brendan Rodgers’s youngster is slightly better than the Champions League finalist.
“Kieran Tierney just edges Andy Robertson for me in terms of the level both players are at just now,” he told The Glasgow Evening Times.
“There always seems to be a debate now whenever the two are in the Scotland squad about how they play together or who goes where but for me Tierney is marginally ahead of Robertson.
“They are both excellent players. Robertson is playing consistently at a higher level given the demands of the English Premier League but defensively I think Tierney edges it while I also think he is more powerful.”
It’s a bold statement by Hay, given that Robertson – released by Celtic at the age of 15 – is now valued at around £60 million [CIES Football Observatory].
In truth, the Tierney-Robertson debate will continue until the former makes the move to English football. While he is still at Parkhead, many will assume that Robertson is the superior player, based on the fact he plays for an elite English team.
That being said, by the time Tierney is 24, the Hoops starlet might be ahead of Robertson at the same age – if he isn’t already.
