Jay Bothroyd says Roberto De Zerbi and Thomas Tuchel are better options to be Tottenham Hotspur’s next manager rather than Mauricio Pochettino.

The former Arsenal striker says Spurs fans want ‘excitement’ and he thinks De Zerbi at Brighton, who are pushing for Europe, will bring that to the table.

Added to that, Bothroyd pointed out that Antonio Conte, whose future is in doubt, has ‘the same win percentage’ as Pochettino, even though he thinks the latter had a better squad during his time in north London.

Daniel Levy has a big call to make during these next few months, in regards to what he does with Conte.

The Italian is yet to sign a new deal, but should Levy hand him a new contract given the noise that has been around him this season?

Either way, it seems as though Conte will leave and Bothroyd put forward the names of managers who he thinks are better options than Pochettino, as he told Sky Sports News (12/03/23).

“I don’t understand some of these Tottenham fans,” said Bothroyd. “They are talking about bringing Pochettino back.

“Poch and Conte have the same win percentage. I think Poch was with a better squad than there is now. I don’t think Tottenham are going to be improving if they bring Poch back.

“If they were to bring in someone like Tuchel or De Zerbi, then I think they would be bringing in someone with a better style and one that Tottenham fans want to see.

“I just think Spurs fans want to see exciting football. I have friends who are Tottenham fans. They just want to see exciting football. Goals. Chances. They want to see the crowd roaring. The problem with Conte is that it’s deemed boring football.”

DE ZERBI GOING GREAT GUNS AT BRIGHTON

The 43-year-old replaced Graham Potter at Brighton when he left for Chelsea in September, and despite joining a team that was overachieving, De Zerbi has managed to take the team to another level.

Brighton always played the pretty stuff under Potter. But they lacked that goalscoring quality or ability to blow teams away.

Well, under De Zerbi, they are smashing teams, left, right and centre, so in terms of style, he would suit Tottenham down to a tee.
