Darren Bent told the Football Show on Sky Sports (06/01/21 at 12:40 pm) that reported Arsenal and West Ham target Christian Eriksen needs to leave Inter and he’s a ‘better player than Ndombele’.
Just under a year after swapping Tottenham for Inter, it seems as though Eriksen’s time in Italy is coming to and end, with the likes of Arsenal and West Ham keen on his services, as reported by Inter Live and EuroSport.
It hasn’t worked out for the technically-gifted playmaker, who is no longer wanted at the San Siro, and now a return to the Premier League and a potential reunion with the recently-appointed PSG boss, Mauricio Pochettino, is being spoken about.
Bent did express his surprise at Eriksen not being able to cut it in Italy, as he made it clear that he is someone with ‘such great quality’.
“It hasn’t worked out,” said Bent. “I don’t understand why because you are talking about a guy here who has such great quality.
“Ndombele is coming back into his own [for Tottenham] but Eriksen is that one creative player that they miss because his attributes and technique has been absolutely superb. It’s kind of surprised me that he hasn’t excelled at Inter Milan because I thought he would go from strength to strength, but it just hasn’t worked out for him.
“I think player for player I think he’s a better player than Ndombele. But I think Ndombele is more the type of player Ndombele that Mourinho would like more than an Eriksen – I think Christian Eriksen, he definitely needs to go somewhere where he will feel loved again.”
Both West Ham and Arsenal could do with Eriksen’s spark in the middle of the park, but a move to the Emirates Stadium would be a controversial one given his past roots.
Even a move to the London Stadium would generate some noise, but it would be a surprise to see Eriksen return to the Premier League.
As highlighted by the Tottenham documentary, Eriksen was adamant to leave, so returning less than a year later may just prove to be that difficult for the playmaker to face.
