Ilkay Gundogan and Jurgen Klopp have a fantastic relationship with one another, but after Manchester City won the Premier League title courtesy of two goals from the German, that may change.
The midfielder, of course, worked with Klopp at Borussia Dortmund, and despite being a City player now, the German hasn’t been afraid to go on the record to discuss his appreciation for the Liverpool boss.
The pair are seemingly great friends, but we can imagine that their next conversation may be a slightly awkward one after Gundogan snatched the Premier League title from Klopp’s grasp at the weekend.
Mark Lawrenson believes that Klopp may not be too happy with the 31-year-old, stating that Gundogan’s brace won’t have gone down well with his former boss.

“The irony was Gundogan coming on and scoring twice. Well, he used to play for Klopp didn’t he, so I bet that went down well. City can do this, the big teams do this on regular occasions. Look at what Real Madrid did to City and other games that we’ve seen, we’ve seen it from Liverpool as well,” Lawrenson said.
No favours
Klopp and Gundogan may have a good relationship, but they were never going to be doing each other any favours in the title race.
Indeed, while Steven Gerrard will have wanted to do Klopp a favour at the weekend, Gundogan certainly didn’t and his two goals ultimately ended Liverpool’s dreams of winning a second Premier League title.
Klopp can be a bit of a sore loser at times, but we’re sure that he’ll congratulate Gundogan when he next sees him. After all, the pair are known to be very close despite their differing club allegiances these days.
