Everton boss Ronald Koeman has taken to Twitter to offer his immediate reaction to Southampton losing 3-2 to Manchester United in the EFL Cup final.
The Toffees coasted to another home win on Saturday afternoon as they beat Sunderland 2-0 at Goodison Park thanks to goals from Idrissa Gueye and Romelu Lukaku.
Everton then got to sit back as Manchester United and Southampton locked horns at Wembley in the EFL Cup final this afternoon – and those who watched were treated to an enthralling encounter.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Jesse Lingard put United 2-0 up, with many believing that the game was over, before Manolo Gabbiadini struck either side of half time to draw the Saints level.
Whilst Southampton were arguably the better side, United grabbed the win when Ibrahimovic headed home Ander Herrera’s cross to win the trophy – Jose Mourinho’s first piece of silverware as United boss.
Southampton and manager Claude Puel were left to wonder what could have been at Wembley, and Everton boss Ronald Koeman – who left the Saints for Goodison Park last summer – took to Twitter to offer his reaction.

The Dutchman suggested that Southampton can be proud with their performance despite the defeat, and even noted that the result was the best case scenario for Everton.
Southampton’s defeat means that seventh place can qualify for the Europa League, and Everton are currently in the box seat for that spot, meaning Koeman could guide the Toffees into Europe in his first season.
