Ian Wright has responded to Leeds United star Kalvin Phillips’s post on Instagram following the win against Everton.

Phillips has taken to Instagram to revel in Leeds’s 1-0 win against Everton away from home at Goodison Park in the Premier League on Saturday evening.

The England international midfielder has praised his teammate and Brazilian winger Raphinha for his goal in the second half, and has hailed goalkeeper Illan Meslier for keeping a clean sheet.

The 24-year-old himself played well in the middle of the park, as he protected the back-line and allowed the attacking players to create problems for the Everton defence.

According to WhoScored, Phillips took two shots of which one was on target, and earned one key pass, had a pass accuracy of 94.1%, won one header, took 96 touches, attempted one dribble, and made two tackles and one interception.

Former Arsenal and England international striker Wright has praised Phillips and has posted a message on his Instagram post, while some Leeds fans have praised the midfielder on Twitter, as shown below.

Wright responded: “Best player on the pitch tonight KP. Keep it going ❤️”

Meanwhile, Everton central defender Mason Holgate has given his take on the final result.

BBC Sport quotes Holgate as saying: “We know what kind of game they like to play – man to man, intensive back and forth. I think we got dragged into a sling-off, it’s not a game we wanted to get dragged in to. It comes down to who’s going to nick one at the end, unfortunately they’ve nicked one. We played into their hands, which was disappointing.

“We felt like we had to go forward as fast as we could as well. When it’s like that, it turns it into a 50-50 game. On another day we could have got the goal and we’d be talking about a good result. It’s disappointing, but all we can do is go again.”
