Ashley Young was the ‘best player on the pitch’ during Aston Villa’s goalless draw against Leicester City, according to Emiliano Martinez.

After losing four Premier League games on the bounce, Villa ended that rut by securing their first draw on the road this season at the King Power Stadium.

After the game, Martinez reacted to Young’s Instagram post where he praised the fans after making his 200th start for the club.

In the comments section, Villa’s shot-stopper made it clear Young was the ‘best player on the pitch’.

Young started at left-back for Villa, with Lucas Digne still recovering from the shoulder injury he suffered against Tottenham.

Judging by the Frenchman’s Instagram posts recently, it won’t be too long before he is back on the field for Villa.

This has been a season to forget for the Midlands side, as a midtable finish is now on the cards.

Whilst things started pretty well under Steven Gerrard, to put it simply, they have regressed in recent months.

Only Jacob Ramsey and Matty Cash have improved under the Villa boss, whilst Marvelous Nakamba showed promising signs during Gerrard’s early stages.

The defensive-minded midfielder has been back in action following his long-term injury, but he hasn’t started a game yet and only tasted a few minutes of competitive football.

Perhaps Nakamba will earn that chance when Villa take on Championship-bound, Norwich City on Saturday.
