Speaking on Goal’s YouTube channel, Michail Antonio has been taking part in the ‘Simply The Best’ series, and he was asked to name the best player he’s ever played alongside.

Antonio has worked with some brilliant footballers over the years at West Ham, from Declan Rice to Jarrod Bowen, but according to Antonio, the best footballer he’s worked with is Dimitri Payet.

The French midfielder, of course, spent just 18 months in east London, but he made one hell of an impression with the Hammers, proving to be one of the very best players in the Premier League during his time at the club.

Antonio loved Payet

The striker named the midfielder as the best player he’s ever worked alongside.

“The best player I’ve played with is Dimitri Payet, the guy was magic to be fair, he could create a goal out of nothing, get an assist and if we got a free-kick he could score it as well,” Antonio said.

Made his mark

Payet may not have spent very long in the Premier League, but he more than made his mark in the 18 months he had in claret and blue.

The midfielder was one of the top creative forces in the division, dragging West Ham to a Europa League spot in 2016, and, as Antonio says, he could create moments of magic out of absolutely nothing.

His free-kick prowess will live long in the memory, but his game was about so much more than just his speciality from dead balls.

His dribbling, ability to score from distance and unrivalled vision made him one of the best players on the planet at that time, but sadly, he didn’t stick around at West Ham for too long after a dynamite first season at the club.
