Liverpool forward Sadio Mane has taken to Instagram to praise his fellow countryman El Hadji Diouf.
The 28-year-old stated that the one-time Liverpool forward is ‘the best player in our dear country’.
There’s no doubt that El Hadji Diouf was one of the first real characters to come from Senegal and make a name for himself in England’s top-flight.
El Hadji Diouf probably didn’t make himself known through his performances at the likes of Liverpool or Leeds, but he was known, albeit in a controversial way.
But given what Mane has achieved at Liverpool, it could be argued that he is now Senegal’s greatest ever player.
His Premier League medal and Champions League medal is proof of that even though he wouldn’t need that to surpass the once-controversial star.
Nonetheless, Liverpool fans will be hoping Mane returns from the international break refreshed because, by his top standards, he hasn’t hit the heights he should have during this campaign.
And if he does then there’s no reason why Liverpool cannot secure a top-four finish during this injury-plagued season.
