The Everton academy product made his first start for the club against Sunderland.

After weeks of calling for him to be given a chance, Everton fans finally saw Jonjoe Kenny in action for their senior side on Wednesday.
The Toffees academy product was handed his first ever start for the club as Sunderland visited Goodison Park in the Carabao Cup.
With Kenny’s under-23 colleagues Mason Holgate, Tom Davies and Dominic Calvert-Lewin each making strides at first team level last season, many thought the 20-year-old’s turn was next after Seamus Coleman’s injury towards the end of last season.

Instead, Kenny appeared only once as a substitute before last night and appeared to fall further down the pecking order after Cuco Martina – a player Everton’s manager, Ronald Koeman, signed for Southampton – arrived at the club in the summer.
And though perhaps a little biased, many Toffees fans believe Kenny did enough against Sunderland to keep his place ahead of the Curacao international.
Here’s what they are saying on Twitter:
Everton fans – what did you make of Kenny’s performance? Should he play ahead of Martina?
