Former Dundee United midfielder Mark Fotheringham says he is so impressed with Rangers coach Michael Beale.

He did the Pro Licence course with Beale and said he was the ‘best of the lot’ there.

That cohort included former Chelsea managers Jose Mourinho and Andre Villas Boas.

That makes it very high praise indeed, but Beale clearly made an impression, judging by Fotheringham’s comments to the Evening Telegraph.

“Jose Mourinho was unbelievable. He brings such incredible experience and speaks with such and authority,” he said.

“The Pro Licence has been brilliant for that in the last few weeks, with Jose Mourinho, Andre Villas-Boas and Michael Beale who, in my opinion, was the best of the lot.

“He actually dropped me a message afterwards saying that he’d love to catch up and have a chat about my experiences in Germany, which speaks volumes about his attitude.

“I would love that because there is nothing better than sharing ideas and talking about the game.”

Steven Gerrard gets a lot of the praise for turning Rangers around and it is deserved.

But it doesn’t work as well without top coaches like Beale around in the background doing excellent work.

Beale may well go off and be a manager himself somewhere one day, but for the time being he’ll keep being an asset to Rangers.
