Tottenham Hotspur’s academy has produced plenty of top talents in recent years.

Obviously Harry Kane is the poster boy in terms of homegrown Spurs players.

You’ve also got the likes of Alfie Devine, Troy Parrott, Dane Scarlett, Kion Etete and many more.

Now, The Athletic’s Jack Pitt-Brooke has told The View from the Lane podcast about another top talent.

He said Jamie Donley is seen as the “best of his generation” at Tottenham right now.

The 18-year-old joined Spurs ten years ago and has made waves at the club while rising through the ranks.

This season, Donley has been playing for both the Under-18s and Under-21s.

He has made 28 appearances at age level, registering five goals and six assists, according to Transfermarkt.

Just this week, Tottenham rewarded Donley’s progress with a new contract until 2027.

And Pitt-Brooke believes there’s more to come from the young Northern Irishman.

“I think the best young player they’ve got is a lad called Jamie Donley,” he said.

“He was born in Northern Ireland, I’ve seen him play actually, and he played in that game he was good.

“He’s a natural footballer, lots of time on the ball, elegant, skilful.

“He was playing in attacking midfield but I gather he can also play up front.

“He’s very highly rated and is thought to be the best of his generation coming through at Tottenham at the moment, so he’s one to watch out for.”

Exciting prospect

Obviously we can’t get ahead of ourselves when it comes to exciting prospects who look like they have a bright future in the game.

Even Kane needed time to develop, and took in several loan spells away from Spurs before eventually breaking into the first team.

That’s not to say every exciting young player will be at the same level as Kane either. After all, Kane is a 10/10 and few players worldwide will reach those heights.

Nonetheless, it’s great to see Donley doing so well, and hopefully he can keep developing into a top player.

He already looks like he’s ready for a loan move to a Championship or League One club.
