Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to react after the club announced that Fabinho had signed a new contract at Anfield.
What’s the story?
Well, the 27-year-old has put pen to paper on a new long-term contract with the Reds – Liverpool do not specify the exact length of the deal.
It is reward for Fabinho’s fantastic efforts on Merseyside ever since his £43.7m move from Monaco in May 2018.
The 15-cap Brazil international helped Liverpool win the Champions League in his first season at Anfield.
Fabinho then went on to help Jürgen Klopp’s side win the UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, and also the Premier League.
In total, the South American has racked up 122 appearances for the Reds, and seems to be getting better with each season.
Signing of the summer?
Make no mistake about it, this is big for Liverpool.
When Fabinho doesn’t play, or is played out of position at centre-back, it is extremely noticeable.
Having the man who Pep Lijnders calls ‘the lighthouse’ in midfield helps set the tone for Klopp, and ensures Liverpool can attack higher up the pitch.
Simply put, there isn’t a player like Fabinho at Anfield right now, which makes him so important – it’s huge news for him to commit his future.
Hopefully, the £100,000-a-week man can add a few more trophies to his CV in the 2021/22 campaign.
