We take a look at a combined XI, consisting of the best players from both Everton and Liverpool from the season so far.
Liverpool and Everton have experienced very different campaigns so far this term.
The Reds are battling Chelsea at the top of the league, whilst the Toffees have been dogged by inconsistency.
Here is our combined Merseyside XI from the 2016/17 season thus far:
GK – Maarten Stekelenburg:
Choosing the best goalkeeper from Liverpool and Everton for the season so far was next to impossible.
Loris Karius, Simon Mignolet and Maarten Stekelenburg have quite simply been appalling.
The only reason the Everton man gets the nod is for his double penalty save against Manchester City in October.
RB – Seamus Coleman:
The Blues right-back has been his usual consistent, marauding self this season, and continues to be a key figure in the Everton side.
LB – James Milner:
Despite not being a defender by trade, the 30-year-old deserves so much credit for how he has performed for Liverpool this season, and filled in for Jürgen Klopp in what was a problem position for the Reds.
CB – Joel Matip:
The Cameroonian has been a revelation since his arrival in the summer. The Reds do not look the same without him.
CB – Ashley Williams:
Everton’s Ashley Williams
At 31, Williams has now entered the prime years of his career for a centre-back.
And what a fantastic addition he has proved to be for the Toffees.
CM – Adam Lallana:
The Liverpool man has excelled in a deeper role this term, and has arguably been Klopp’s best player so far this season.
CM – Idrissa Guaye:
The Senegalese has been a vital addition to the Everton midfield this season, with his tenacious attitude, and ball-winning ability proving to be a wonderful asset to Ronald Koeman’s side.
LW – Philippe Coutinho:
Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho in action
Despite missing the last few weeks with injury, the Brazilian simply had to make the XI.
One of the best technically gifted players in the league, Coutinho has the ability to carry his side, and win games with moments of individual magic.
RW – Sadio Mane:
The £34 million man was an instant success upon his arrival at Anfield, and has continued to impress for the Reds with his high level performances.
ACM – Roberto Firmino:
Another Brazilian in the XI, Firmino has finally started to justify his price-tag this term. He can create and score goals, and his tireless running into the channels must be a nightmare to defend against.
CF – Romleu Lukaku:
The big Belgian has come under intense scrutiny for his perceived lack of work ethic this term, but it is hard to argue with his record of 10 goals in 18 games.
And with his imposing frame, he would be the perfect focal point of the attack.
Special mentions for the likes of Jordan Henderson, Nathaniel Clyne and Gareth Barry who were unlucky to miss out.
