Jose Mourinho has refused to condemn Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris for the goal he conceded this afternoon.
Spurs were held to a 1-1 draw away to Crystal Palace after Jeff Schlupp snatched a late equaliser for the hosts.
The Tottenham stopper could only parry Eberechi Eze’s in-swinging free kick into the path of Schlupp, who just had to tap in from three or four yards out.
If there was a culprit for the goal, it would’ve been for Lloris.
But the Lilywhites boss has refused to throw the France international under the bus, stating he’s the Premier League’s finest goalkeeper when asked if he was to blame.
Mourinho said to Sky Sports: “My goalkeeper is the best in the Premier League.”
Is Lloris the best in the division? Well he’s definitely up there, yep.
The former Lyon star, a £12 million signing in 2012, was stagnant under Mauricio Pochettino.
But you could absolutely argue he’s been Tottenham’s most consistent performer in 2020 under Mourinho as a whole, given that the likes of Harry Kane has only been fit half the year.
Liverpool’s Alisson – who Kane will face at Anfield on Wednesday – is another one who could stake his claim as the division’s best, but Lloris is absolutely a contender.
