Jamie Redknapp was impressed by Emi Buendia’s performance for Aston Villa last night as the Premier League side fought back to draw 2-2 with Manchester United.

Speaking on Sky Sports Saturday Night Football (15/01/22 at 7:55 pm), the pundit claimed that the Argentine’s display for Steven Gerrard’s side was his best yet for the club.

Buendia signed for Villa in the summer from Norwich City. Yet despite being a stat player for the Canaries in both the Premier League and Championship, the playmaker has struggled in the first few months for the Birmingham side.

The winger has bagged just one goal and three assists in 20 appearances this season. However, Buendia’s performance against United was arguably his best yet for Villa, and Redknapp was blown away by the 25-year-old.

The pundit said: “I thought that was Buendia’s best game yet for Villa. The first half he got on the ball, and in the second, he was making things happen with a lovely weighted pass for one of the goals.”

Redknapp added: “He feels like he’s just starting to get in his stride. He was a big money signing that hasn’t quite worked out. But you can see his qualities.”

United display shows how good Buendia can be for Villa

Whilst the night belonged to Phillippe Coutinho and Jacob Ramsay, there’s no denying that Buendia was the silent star of the match, with the winger having a hand in Villa’s resilient attack for most of the match.

Indeed, Villa did well to claim a point against United after going 2-0 down. And Buendia turned up the style and the finesse at the perfect time to help his side to an important point, something Gerrard will no doubt want to see more of in upcoming games.
