David McGoldrick has been singing the praises of Liverpool attacker Roberto Firmino.

The lifelong Reds fan is set to face his boyhood club on Sunday night when the reigning Premier League champions visit Sheffield United.

And no doubt the Blades hitman will be starstruck by sharing a field with the likes of Sadio Mane and Mo Salah once again.

But another Liverpool player who has left a big impression on the Republic of Ireland international is Firmino.

The Brazilian forward takes a bit of stick for his lack of goals, having only found the net on six occasions this season.

But in terms of ability and creating chances for the likes of Mane and Salah, everybody knows and appreciates Firmino’s talent.

And for McGoldrick, he isn’t sure if he’s ever seen a player with a cleaner first touch than the former Hoffenheim ace.

He told The Sheffield Star: “Firmino, he’s probably got the best first touch I’ve seen and obviously Salah brings so many goals. So they’ve got world class players but we go in, as always, believing we can cause them problems and that we can win. Why not?”

Liverpool will be favourites, but only because United are bottom of the Premier League table.

Against anybody else and it wouldn’t be a shock to see Jurgen Klopp’s side lose and that’s because their domestic form has been dreadful since the turn of the year, coinciding with the further depletion of their centre-back options.
