The Rangers defender was one of the best players on the pitch as the Swedes came back from a goal down to stun the former World and European champions with a 2-1 win.

Spain debutant Carlos Soler put the visitors ahead with a half-volley from Jordi Alba’s cross barely five minutes in before Alexander Isak levelled things up a minute later after a rare Sergi Busquets mistake.

12 minutes into the second half, Sweden took the lead through Viktor Claesson following some excellent play by Juventus midfielder Dejan Kulusevski.

Helander was paired with Manchester United’s Victor Lindelof and the pair look to have formed a solid partnership in the heart of the Swedish defence.

The Rangers star is a massive favourite at Ibrox and has played a key role for Steven Gerrard’s side over the last 18 months as they romped to the title and impressed in Europe.

His performance against Spain last night again caught the eye and Rangers fans on Twitter were full of praise for the centre-back – with one calling him the best defender in the world.

Here are some of the comments from Rangers fans after Helander’s performance helped Sweden to an impressive win over Spain:
