Jack Rodwell is reportedly set to sign for Serie A powerhouses Roma, one year after having his contract at League One Sunderland was ripped up.

This might actually be happening.
According to The Mail, Jack Rodwell is due in Italy ahead of one of the most baffling transfers in recent history. Serie A powerhouses Roma are apparently set to sign a player who was released by Blackburn Rovers at the end of last season with the one-time England international set to undergo a series of rigorous fitness tests over the next 48 hours.
It’s fair to say few expected to see Rodwell trotting around the Stadio Olimpico in sunset orange, battling with Juventus and playing in the Europa League, one year after his miserable spell at Sunderland came to an overdue end.

Rodwell remains one of the most unpopular Sunderland players of the entire 21st century, and that takes some doing. Then again, that’s what happens when you’re hoovering up £70,000 a week at a crisis-ridden club about to suffer successive relegations.
According to the BBC, Rodwell finally had his lucrative contract ripped up in June 2018, a matter of months after he refused to walk away from his money-spinning deal at the Stadium of Light despite the fact that he’d played just twice all season.
So it’s fair to say the Sunderland fans aren’t exactly wishing him all the best in his Italian adventure.
