Hugill, who joined Middlesbrough on loan from Premier League club West Ham in the summer transfer window, scored both goals in Boro’s 2-0 win against Wigan at the Riverside Stadium in the Championship on Saturday afternoon.
The 26-year-old – who joined the Hammers from Preston North End in January 2018 for a transfer fee reported by Football.London to be worth £10 million – scored from the penalty spot in the 38th minute and found the target again on 44 minutes.
It was the former Port Vale forward’s first goals in the Championship for Middlesbrough since his loan move from West Ham in the summer transfer window.
The win against Wigan means that Tony Pulis’s side are now second in the Championship table with 31 points from 17 matches, just two points behind leaders Norwich City.
Former Middlesbrough forward and club legend Slaven was following the match, and he was impressed with the display produced by Hugill.
