Paul Merson has said on Sky Sports News (1:40pm, October 2, 2021) that he thought that reported Arsenal target Bernardo Silva would leave Manchester City.

Arsenal interest

City attacker Silva was linked with a move to Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal in the summer transfer window.

The Mirror reported in August that Arsenal wanted to take the Portugal international to the Emirates Stadium.

However, the 27-year-old Portugal international, who can operate as a midfielder or as a winger, rejected a move to Arsenal, according to journalist Filipe Dias on Sky Sports.

Silva has been playing well for City this season, leaving former Arsenal star and Sky Sports pundit Merson impressed.

Paul Merson’s verdict

Merson said on Sky Sports News (1:40pm, October 2, 2021): “He is a good footballer, he is a good footballer. He has got a very good brain. He plays well. I thought he would be surplus to requirement. I thought he would be gone. He is an outstanding player, he is a team player.”

Impressive displays

Arsenal are not doing too badly at the moment, although you suspect that they would be doing better with Silva in their squad.

The Portugal international is a very good attacking player who also works hard for the team.

The 27-year-old has won the Premier League title thrice, the FA Cup once and the EFL Cup on four occasions with City.

Silva has scored one goal in five Premier League appearances and has played twice in the Champions League for City so far this season.
