Dimitar Berbatov has told the Daily Star that Harry Kane dropping deeper and spraying passes makes it look as though Manchester City superstar Kevin De Bruyne is playing for Spurs. Kane was excellent on Wednesday.
The 28-year-old England skipper netted his 22nd goal of the season in all competitions, and his 12th Premier League strike in a 2-0 win away at Brighton. He became the all-time leading away goalscorer, with 95 goals.
The win sees Spurs remain in the hunt for the top four. While they are three points behind Arsenal with the Gunners boasting a game in hand, Spurs do have a game in hand over West Ham and Manchester United.
A win in that game in hand, would see Spurs go a point ahead of United and West Ham. With Kane on form, anything could happen. Berbatov praised his old side’s main man – likening him to £400k-a-week (Spotrac) De Bruyne.
“Honestly, I look at strikers a bit differently, his overall movement around the pitch, and how he gets the ball. When he has the ball, there is a calmness around the pitch,” Berbatov said, when discussing Kane.
And when he passes the ball, oh my god, it’s like I’m watching Kevin De Bruyne playing for Spurs. He’s so good at scoring goals and playing killer passes – so he’s in between a No.9 and No.10.”
Berbatov on Kane: Tottenham star playing two roles for Spurs
At Arsenal, Alexandre Lacazette is playing as the link between midfield and the Gunners attackers – but he lacks the goals. At Manchester United, Cristiano Ronaldo has the goals – but he does not provide the creativity.
It is a different story with Kane. He has five goals in his last four Premier League games, but he is also capable of incredible passes and assists. His arrow-like knock to Sergio Reguilon at Brighton deserved an assist.
Kane is playing the role of two players, as if Spurs had two Kane’s on the pitch. If they are to make a late push for the top four, Kane must stay fit.
