The Leeds United defender was impressive in the defeat to Newport County.
Leeds United crashed out of the FA Cup yesterday with a third round defeat away to League Two side Newport County, but there was one positive to take for Thomas Christiansen’s side.
Gaetano Berardi scored the first goal of his senior career with a fine strike and the experienced defender’s overall performance was encouraging as he demonstrated that he is capable of providing cover at centre-back.
Berardi has been regularly deployed at left-back for Leeds this season but was fielded at the heart of the defence against Newport County and was one of the few members of Christiansen’s team to emerge with any credit.
The dependable defender has produced some excellent performances this campaign and, while many of his team-mates were underwhelming against Newport County, he still stuck to his task well.
Following their FA Cup exit, Leeds will now be solely focused on attempting to secure a place in the Championship play-offs, although achieving that objective certainly won’t be straightforward given the intense competition that they will face.
With Berardi in their side, though, Leeds will have confidence that they can edge closer to promotion.
