Tottenham Hotspur sold Christian Eriksen to Inter Milan in the January transfer window, but he hasn’t quite lived up to expectations in Italy.

Eriksen started last season poorly, having admitted that he would fancy a new challenge having entered the final year of his contract.

Spurs decided to sell in January before Eriksen left for free, but he has only managed four goals and three assists in 33 games for Inter.

The 28-year-old is now in and out of Antonio Conte’s side, and could well leave the San Siro in January for another new start.

Eriksen has been heavily criticised in Italy for his poor performances, and Inter legend Beppe Bergomi has now offered his opinion.

Bergomi has told Tuttomercatoweb that he has ‘never’ been an admirer of Eriksen, and would have much preferred Inter to sign Harry Kane or Son Heung-min.

Bergomi believes that those two are much better than Eriksen, though ultimately feels that the Dane was brought in to a difficult situation at Inter, that ultimately hasn’t helped him.

“I have never been an admirer of Eriksen: watching Tottenham I would have immediately taken Kane or Son, while on others I would have struggled more,” said Bergomi. “There was a market opportunity that however ended up putting the manager in difficulty. An opportunity that also came to cost on the whole: Eriksen has important qualities, I say that he did not come in a favourable situation,” he added.

It’s hard to imagine Son or Kane joining Inter any time soon given how much Tottenham would demand for the pair, but Bergomi’s comments show just how highly-rated the pair are outside of England.
