Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has praised Crystal Palace striker Christian Benteke, as quoted on the club’s official website.

Klopp’s Liverpool will take on Palace at Anfield in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

Benteke is likely to feature for the Eagles.

The 30-year-old Belgium international striker joined Palace from Liverpool back in the summer of 2016 for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £27 million.

Klopp was then in charge of Liverpool, and the German has now praised the striker, as well as the other attacking players in the Palace team.

The German said today, as quoted on Liverpool’s official website: “I always said it’s incredible how strong they are up-front with all the players they have: now [Odsonne] Edouard came in and scored twice, obviously had anyway quite a decent scoring record.

“[Jordan] Ayew, [Christian] Benteke, the boy from Mainz and [Wilfried] Zaha obviously. So that’s incredible quality and now in midfield.”

No big loss for Liverpool?

Benteke is a good striker who knows the Premier League inside out, but the Belgian has not really been a massive loss for Liverpool.

Without the striker, the Reds have won the Premier League and the Champions League.

Mohamed Salah is banging in the goals for fun for the Reds.

Benteke scored 10 goals in 21 Premier League starts for Palace last season, while in 2019-20, he found the back of the net only twice in the league.

Liverpool are a very dynamic and high-pressing team, and the way Benteke plays would not have suited the Reds.

Perhaps tomorrow the striker will score a goal or two against Liverpool and show them what he is capable of.
