Darren Bent has agreed that his former Tottenham teammate, Aaron Lennon, doesn’t get enough respect after making his 400th Premier League appearance, as he told talkSPORT.

The 34-year-old winger reached that milestone in Burnley colours during their defeat against Liverpool last Sunday.

Starting his career at Leeds United, Lennon sparked and shone the most in the colours of Spurs, which also saw him earn England recognition.

When he left north London, he ended up at Goodison Park, with a trip to Turkey in between his two Burnley spells.

Bent played alongside Lennon during their days in Spurs and he was asked whether he was ‘disrespected’ given the career he has had.

“Probably not,” said Bent. “That is a lot of appearances, by the way, 400. That is some going by Aaron Lennon.

‘I played with him at Tottenham. England international. Loads of ability. He can go past people. He has really good times at Tottenham.

“Of course, we have been blessed in this country with fantastic players. World-class superstars, so maybe he doesn’t get the respect he deserves.

“But you don’t talk anything away from him. To rack up 400 appearances in arguably the most competitive league in the world tells you everything you need to know.”

Tottenham fans would love to go back when Lennon was at his peak and have a player of his ilk flying down their wing.

The speed and movement of Lennon made him a dangerous prospect for many, many fullbacks.

Whilst Heung-Min Son and Lucas Moura are the ones doing the business on the flanks now, it isn’t as rosy in the Tottenham garden as it all seems.

Spurs have lost three Premier League games on the bounce and there is now serious worry that they will miss out on a Champions League place.
