Darren Bent has made it clear on talkSPORT (03/11/20 at 8:40 am) that ex-Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino isn’t in the ‘world-class’ bracket of Jurgen Klopp, Pep Guardiola or Carlo Ancelotti.
The former striker feels Pochettino taking Spurs to a Champions League final doesn’t warrant him being thought of in such high regard, like the men prowling the touchlines of Liverpool, Manchester City and Everton, at this moment in time.
The above trio have won the Premier League title during their reigns in England, added with several domestic and European trophies, but that was something that eluded Poch during his days in North London.
There’s no doubt that Pochettino was a popular figure at Spurs and many admired the work he did, but Bent doesn’t agree with the claims that he’s ‘world-class’.
“I don’t think he is [world-class],” Bent told talkSPORT. “When I look at elite managers out there. I look at Klopp, Guardiola and even Ancelotti from what he has done.
“I cannot put Pochettino in that bracket. Not yet. I know he has been at Spurs. He didn’t win anything at Spurs.
“But to elevate him because he got a team to the Champions League final and a League Cup final, that’s not world level management for me. I think he is good. But I just don’t think he’s in that bracket.”
It’s nearing a year since Daniel Levy decided to let Pochettino go from his duties at Spurs, as the Argentine is yet to find another job.
Since being sacked by Spurs, the Chelsea job, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Juventus, to name a few, have become available, but nothing has seemingly been offered to the former midfielder.
But with pressure looming over a certain Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Old Trafford, it will be interesting to see if he ends up at Manchester United where he can really showcase just how good he is.
