Darren Bent told talkSPORT Breakfast (15/12/20 at 8:40 am) that Mikel Arteta should have become Everton boss and Carlo Ancelotti should have gone to Arsenal during the time of their appointments.

Both Everton and Arsenal sacked Marco Silva and Unai Emery, respectively, last December and then went on the hunt for a new coach.

Arsenal opted for the modern approach by bringing in Pep Guardiola’s inexperienced right-hand man, Arteta, whilst the Toffees went old school with the trophy-laden, Ancelotti.

Former Tottenham striker, Bent, who is a boyhood Arsenal fan admitted that he got ‘carried away’ with the club winning the FA Cup in the summer.

“When there was him and Ancelotti as the two managers out there,” said Bent. “I always felt that it should have been Ancelotti who came to Arsenal and Arteta go to Everton.

“Obviously, that didn’t happen. Where he got success so quickly was winning the FA Cup. Beating who he beat and we all got carried away. Myself included. We started thinking we could finish in the top four.”

Whilst Arteta has managed to add the FA Cup to Arsenal’s cabinet, it’s pretty obvious that in the Premier League, it’s Ancelotti who has had the better time.

Arsenal have come out and backed Arteta, whether they stick by their word remains to be seen.

But it’s quite clear that the former midfielder is on thin ice with the fans, who are worried they won’t even finish even in the top ten this season.
