Premier League duo Wolverhampton Wanderers and Spurs were both linked with Monaco’s Ligue 1 starlet Benoit Badiashile in the summer.

Wolverhampton Wanderers and Tottenham Hotspur certainly haven’t enjoyed the starts to the season they were hoping for.
Six games into the new campaign, Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs have just eight points to their name with a 2-1 defeat to Leicester City once again shining a harsh light on the gaps in a squad which reached the Champions League final just months ago.
Wolves, meanwhile, are stuck in the relegation zone and only a last-gasp equaliser saved them from yet another defeat away at Crystal Palace.
But it could be worse. Spare a thought for Monaco fans who, just two years ago, were celebrating ending PSG’s monopolisation of the Ligue 1 title.
The Principality club were expected to push on this season after flirting with the drop in recent months but, despite a talented squad containing Cesc Fabregas, Wissam Ben Yedder, Adrien Silva and Tiemoue Bakayoko, they are 19th after winning none of their opening six games.
And Benoit Badiashile, who was linked with a staggering £35 million move to Wolves and Tottenham over the summer (L’Equipe), is facing up to yet another painful season in France.

The 18-year-old centre-back has been one of the few bright lights in a horrific start to 2019/20 and unless Leonardo Jardim inspires a dramatic turnaround, Badiashile is all but certain to follow in the footsteps of Bernardo Silva, Kylian Mbappe, Fabinho and Benjamin Mendy.
Standing at 6ft 4ins, Badiashile’s blend of physical strength and technical gifts marks him out as one of Europe’s most promising centre-backs and exactly the sort of future star Tottenham need with Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld out of contract next summer.
And anyone who has watched Wolves this season, their three-man backline a shadow of last season’s impenetrable best, will tell you in no uncertain terms that some quality in reserve would be well received.
