Sunderland winger Benji Kimpioka was handed nine first-team appearances by Jack Ross last term.
Kimpioka was given a selection of starting opportunities at Sunderland last campaign, but was not a first-team regular.
However, there is excitement about the winger’s future at the Stadium of Light.
There were some suggestions that Jack Ross could look to loan out Kimpioka this summer, to help the youngster gain first-team experience.
But Kimpioka has suggested that it looks likely he’ll be at Sunderland, competing for a spot in their first team, next season.
“You get to see what happens. As it looks now, I remain in Sunderland, which I am happy about. As long as I play football I am happy,” he said.
Kimpioka made nine appearances for Sunderland across all competitions last term.
It could be that Ross has to utilise him more this campaign though, as Sunderland are under pressure to offload some of their higher earners.
The Black Cats’ failure to earn promotion means that they will have to take some cost cutting measures this summer, and that could move Kimpioka up the pecking order.
