The Stoke City striker could be a fantastic addition to the Newcastle United squad.
Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez
Rafa Benitez will surely be looking to add more Premier League experience to his Magpies squad this summer, as he looks to guide his side to a successful campaign in the top flight next season.
It could be argued that the area where the Spaniard needs to strengthen most is the forward department, with the club having become over reliant on Dwight Gayle and Aleksandar Mitrovic’s future at Newcastle far from certain.
With this in mind, an interesting option for the Tyneside outfit would be Stoke City striker Peter Crouch, who Benitez signed for Liverpool way back in 2005.
Following the signing of Crouch 12 years ago, Benitez told reporters how highly he rates the striker, as quoted by BBC Sport:
“I’m delighted we have signed him. He is a good player with a lot of qualities and his arrival will give me more options up front.”
Stoke City’s Peter Crouch
He is obviously a big fan of the former Tottenham man, and whilst the 36-year-old is obviously not the player he once was, he still has a lot to offer at the highest level, and could be the perfect signing for the Toon this summer.
The 6ft 7in hitman would be the ideal foil for Dwight Gayle, and could strike up a memorable ‘little and large’ partnership with the former Crystal Palace forward.
Although he would most likely not feature in every game, his nouse in and around the box would most definitely offer the Magpies something different, and could go a long way to helping the Tynesiders enjoy a successful Premier League campaign.
Peter Crouch in action
He is still under contract with the Potters until the summer of 2018, however, and having scored three goals in the final five games of the season for Mark Hughes’ men, they might not be too keen on allowing him to leave the club during the off-season.
Newcastle will be armed with a hefty transfer budget, however, and are most probably in a stronger financial position than Stoke, so if Benitez truly wanted to bring Crouch to St James’ Park this summer, he will have every chance of doing just that.
