Without a win in the Premier League since October and hurtling towards the relegation zone at an alarming rate, Newcastle United are certainly in need of a boost.

Joselu will be hoping that he can be of assistance in that regard, with the striker having scored his first goal in eight league appearances during the 3-2 defeat to Leicester City last weekend.

After struggling in front of goal, Joselu was dropped by manager Rafael Benitez for the game against Chelsea and seemed especially determined to make an impact against Leicester.

He did just that and will now be hoping to retain his place in the starting lineup for the game at home to Everton on Wednesday night.

It is clear that Joselu isn’t the most prolific player – he has scored just three Premier League goals this season and found the net four times in the top flight for Stoke City in the 2015/16 campaign.

However, the 27-year-old’s link-up play is of a high standard and he is capable of performing effectively when deployed up front alongside Dwight Gayle, who has scored three goals in his last four games.

If Joselu and Gayle can bring the best out of each other it would be hugely beneficial for Newcastle as they look to improve their fortunes. Both players were on target against Leicester and will be hoping to repeat that feat against Everton.

Joselu’s ability to drop deep and bring others into play can be a useful asset for Newcastle, and Gayle can help the Spaniard to excel.
