The Newcastle United player would be best served staying where he is and playing when chances arise.

Newcastle United's Adam Armstrong in action

According to a recent report from the Chronicle, Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez plans on sending striker Adam Armstrong back out on loan next season, but the Spaniard would be wise to keep the youngster at St. James’ Park despite the competition for places. After all, he already knows what he can do elsewhere, and it is enough to earn him a first-team chance.

Newcastle currently have Dwight Gayle, Ayoze Perez, Daryl Murphy and Aleksandar Mitrovic on their books, but there are likely to be a few changes before the next season kicks off.

Whichever goal-scorers the Magpies can call on for their top flight return, they should keep Armstrong at the club and give him chances in the cup competitions.

As the likes of Marcus Rashford have proved, if you are good enough you will get your chances, and fate has a habit of casting young prospects into the spotlight at the most telling of times.

Armstrong has spent the last two seasons out on loan, scoring 20 goals in 40 matches for Coventry City and more recently finding the net six times in 35 games for Barnsley.

His spell in the Championship may not have gone according to plan but he still showed glimpses of his brilliance in front of goal and he would be best served continuing his development at Newcastle, training with the players who will one day become his regular teammates on the field and ensuring he is ready when called upon.

Newcastle know what he can do on loan, and at 20 he deserves to stay at his parent club and stake a claim.
