Newcastle United were humbled at home by Watford yesterday.
Magpies boss Rafa Benitez spoke to reporters in the aftermath of his side’s woeful display at home to Watford yesterday that culminated in a 3-0 defeat, and shared the message that he gave to his players during the half-time break, as quoted by the club’s official website.
Newcastle have been the embodiment of a Jekyll and Hyde character this season, with their supporters bearing witness to both the brilliant and abysmal sides of Rafa’s team.
They currently sit in 13th position in the Premier League table, after a woeful run that has seen them lose their last four league games on the bounce, and they are now just four points clear of the relegation zone.
And the Spaniard seemed at a loss to explain the Toon’s woeful display, when speaking to reporters, sharing how he tried to change their fortunes at half-time, to little avail, as quoted by NUFC.co.uk:
“We conceded a second goal, which made it very difficult to manage. Anyway, we spoke about that at half-time, we tried to start well in the second half and score a goal to get back into the game, and the we conceded another goal which meant we had to attack and we were too exposed.”
Next up for the Magpies is a trip to the Hawthorns to take on West Brom on Tuesday night, and a defeat there could see them dragged into real trouble, with the Baggies sitting just three points below them in the table.
One thing is for certain, the Spaniard will need to organise his troops defensively, if they are to have any chance whatsoever of leaving the Black Country with anything to show for their efforts.
